David Tinsley Profile

David Tinsley began his career as a Plant Electrical Engineer at Cammel Laird Shipbuilders, moved on to become a Marine Electrical Technician on the Nuclear Submarine Program being undertaken at VSEL and, having taken his Offshore Survival Training, worked in the Petro-Chemical field, spending three years on various Gas & Oil platforms in the North Sea off the coasts of Holland & Norway. After a short nine-month period working in California on a petrochemical plant outside Los Angeles, David returned to the UK and took up his first teaching post at Wirral Metropolitan College.

For the past twenty years David has worked in Education while keeping his footing firmly in the Electrical Engineering & Design Industry. David’s first substantial role in Education came at The College of North West London where he was the Curriculum Leader to the Building Services Dept for three years. During this time in London he set up his Consultancy Company where he oversaw the Design & Installation aspects of a wide range of commercial electrical work throughout the Capital.

While living in London David attended Greenwich University, and added to his teaching qualifications by completing his Certificate in Education, the Higher Diploma in Education & the C&G Internal & External Assessors qualifications required to assess both Candidates and Tutors within Further Education. Moving back to the North West in 1999 David returned to Sessional Lecturing, dedicating specific days in his week to teaching Level 3 students at Hugh Baird College, Knowsley Community College and Wirral Metropolitan College, while the client lists for his Consultancy and Private Training companies both began to expand.  

David firmly continues his links within Further Education maintaining strong connections with both the City & Guilds & NAPIT. This joint practice ensures a full understanding and awareness of the ever-changing facets surrounding electrical design, technology, electrical legislation & up to date training techniques.

David teaches from Level 2 to Level 4, being one of the only providers of the City & Guilds 2396 Level 4 Design Qualification in the North West of the UK. He takes every new City & Guilds examination as they are released to add to his own portfolio of Engineering Qualifications. His current client list includes EON Power Station who he has a five-year consultancy contract with, as well as Balfour Beatty, Heysham Nuclear Power Station, Lever’s Pharmaceuticals, Bells Pharmaceuticals, ITV Television, Land & Marine Engineering, the MoD (Defense Support Group) and the Costain Engineering & Construction Group.
